Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in earnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
