Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the team's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
