The State of Texas Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Tylenol Makers Concerning Autism Spectrum Assertions

The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump campaigning for US Senate, alleged pharmaceutical manufacturers of concealing safety concerns of acetaminophen

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the producers of acetaminophen, alleging the companies concealed alleged dangers that the drug created to pediatric cognitive development.

This legal action comes a month after Donald Trump publicized an unproven link between consuming Tylenol - also known as paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in children.

Paxton is suing J&J, which once produced the drug, the sole analgesic suggested for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he said they "deceived the public by profiting off of suffering and pushing pills ignoring the dangers."

The company asserts there is insufficient reliable data linking acetaminophen to autism spectrum disorder.

"These corporations lied for decades, intentionally threatening numerous people to increase profits," the attorney general, from the Republican party, stated.

The company said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the spread of false claims on the reliability of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the well-being of American women and children."

On its official site, the company also said it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a established connection between taking paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups speaking for doctors and healthcare providers concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has declared acetaminophen - the key substance in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for women during pregnancy to manage discomfort and elevated temperature, which can create serious health risks if ignored.

"In multiple decades of studies on the utilization of paracetamol in gestation, zero credible investigations has conclusively proven that the use of paracetamol in any trimester of pregnancy leads to brain development issues in children," the association said.

The lawsuit references recent announcements from the previous government in claiming the medication is reportedly hazardous.

In recent weeks, the former president caused concern from medical authorities when he instructed women during pregnancy to "resist strongly" not to use acetaminophen when ill.

The US Food and Drug Administration then published an announcement that medical professionals should contemplate reducing the usage of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in April to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would identify the source of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But specialists cautioned that finding a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the consequence of a complex mix of genetic and environmental factors - would prove challenging.

Autism spectrum disorder is a form of enduring cognitive variation and impairment that impacts how people encounter and interact with the environment, and is diagnosed using doctors' observations.

In his legal document, the attorney general - aligned with the former president who is campaigning for US Senate - asserts the manufacturer and J&J "deliberately disregarded and sought to suppress the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case attempts to require the companies "destroy any promotional materials" that asserts acetaminophen is reliable for women during pregnancy.

This legal action mirrors the grievances of a group of parents of minors with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the producers of acetaminophen in two years ago.

The court dismissed the legal action, declaring research from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
