President Volodymyr Zelensky appears to have departed from a White House meeting empty-handed after failing to obtain the long-desired Tomahawk cruise missiles from President Donald Trump.

The Ukrainian president stated after the civil meeting that both leaders had talked about advanced missile systems, but decided not to make statements on that issue "since the United States does not want an intensification."

President Trump's Stance on Missile Supply

Although Trump left open the possibility of providing Tomahawks to the Ukrainian forces, his attitude during the White House meeting was guarded.

"Hopefully Ukraine won't require them, hopefully we can get the war over without considering Tomahawks," President Trump remarked, adding that America needed the weapons for its own security.

The American leader said that sending the weapons would be "a significant escalation, but discussions will continue."

International Diplomatic Moves

The Trump-Zelensky meeting came just 24 hours following President Trump held telephone discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and agreed to meet him in Budapest soon.

After the discussions, Trump took to social media to call for Ukraine and Russia to "cease current positions" and conclude the conflict.

Kyiv's Viewpoint and Suggestions

The Ukrainian leader suggested that Ukraine could offer unmanned aerial vehicles in exchange for the Tomahawks, a proposal that elicited positive reactions from the American president.

Zelensky also complimented Trump on his role in achieving a peace agreement in the region, suggesting that the US leader could build on that momentum to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Future Talks and Concerns

When asked about whether the possibility of Ukraine having Tomahawks had prompted Putin to meet the US leader, the Ukrainian president answered, "I don't know," adding that the prospect had caused Moscow to be "concerned because it is a strong weapon."

When questioned if he was departing Washington with greater optimism that his nation would receive the missiles, he said, "I am realistic."

Zelensky maintains that using Tomahawks to target Russian oil and energy facilities would significantly damage Russia's military funding capabilities.

Personal Consequences of the War

"Truth and democracy will prevail, and all the violence and aggression will vanish," said one local businessman. "We simply wish to exist peacefully, we don't want to give up, we only desire to be left in peace."

This heartfelt response came as citizens in Kyiv continue to rebuild their lives and enterprises destroyed by recent military strikes.

Continuing Diplomatic Efforts

In recent days, the US president had demonstrated an openness to the idea of providing the Tomahawks, even as the Russian leader cautioned that such a move would additional pressure the bilateral relations.

President Trump had hoped that a personal meeting in Alaska in last summer would help convince Putin to enter into substantial negotiations to resolve the conflict, but that summit did not achieve a significant progress.

Both presidents are now preparing for further discussions as the conflict in Ukraine continues to develop.
